Sword Art Online and Final Fantasy rock up the Media Create chart

This week the Vita passes 711,100 sales for the year, almost 5.25 million lifetime in Japan, with just 9 weeks to keep up its million-a-year strike rate. Unfortunately, hardware sales were just over 10,500, boosted a mere 1,500 by the arrival of a host of new Vita games on one of the busiest weeks in gaming.

Either all of Japan is waiting for the new colours of the Vita is condemned to 10K sales for the rest of its days, soon to be swamped by the Switch.

With 8 new entries in the top 10, Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization dominates selling 70K each on Vita and PS4 for a decent launch. World of Final Fantasy bagged third and fourth places, with the Vita shifting 47,159, but selling 6,000 more on the PS4.

As expected, there's a bigger gap for Berserk, with the shiny PS4 version at No. 6 selling 28K and the more functional Vita edition selling only 10K at No. 12. Otome title Oregairu from 5pb/Mages easily beat that, with almost 20K while Neo Atlas 1469 by Artdink bagged just under 5,000 sales at No. 16.

State the obvious time, these are physical-only sales could easily have been boosted by digital shoppers. Also, yes they will be down on previous installments in their series, because the market is changing fast.

UPDATE: While I focus on the Media Create chart, its worth pointing out Famitsu has the Vita version of SAO 6,000 ahead of the PS4 version and at No. 1. WoFF is neck and neck at 53K each but in the same order. I wonder which chart is more realistic?

Out this week in Japan is Gust's Atelier Firis. While, over in Famitsu land, just the one Vita review with Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star rating a 7/8/8/8 [31], the game is out on 10th November

Last week's chart action.
