You can ignore the 4G, that's really for mobile-obsessed Japan, but will be a nice-to-have feature in the coming years. The HDMI-out shown a recent Sony patent for a new model of Vita will be key to helping sell the console, allowing us to play games on the big screen. Tie that in with a streaming service like Gaikai and Sony can use the Vita as a replacement for the PS3 when the PS4 is unveiled next week.
Sony won't kill off the PS3 obviously, but by pushing the Vita as the cheaper PS4 option with a huge library of games to stream, plus the current and new titles, it could become an interesting proposition for gamers, especially with the mooted price cut (for the old version at a guess) but Sony really needs the new version to be $199£160 too.
